Many employees now freely connect to 3rd party Wi-Fi networks on their smartphones and tablets to enable their day-to-day work. As this behavior becomes routine, some may not think twice about installing proxies to gain Wi-Fi access, unaware that they are potentially enabling attackers to decrypt traffic streams going to and from their devices.
This type of attack, commonly know as man-in-the-middle (MitM), makes data in transit on mobile devices an unmitigated security risk for many organizations. Even though your company may encrypt sensitive corporate data on mobile devices, attackers can intercept and decrypt this data via man-in-the-middle attacks using equipment that costs less than $100.
